Since you have fuel to carb then if equipped with fuel solenoid make sure it is properly working. If that is working properly then I would clean the carb.

solenoid working!even tried w/o solenoid! already cleaned carb & jets! frustrated! i  noticed the solenoid has voltage running to it when the key is in off position another problem! could it be a timing problem?

Still sounds fuel related. Float valve may be stuck. Is fuel inside carb?
The fuel solenoid/anti afterfire shouldn't have voltage when off, you can usually hear it a click when key is turned to on position. I have seen the plunger stick due to gummy fuel and water in carb causing rust.
If you can sit there and spray carb cleaner into carb and it keeps running then timing is good.

I have a 22hp OHV with similar issues. New carb, fuel pump, plugs, gas tank has been cleaned and fresh gas. getting spark and fuel. wont start. Checked all the stop switches I could find. Tried spraying carb with engine start and nothing. Any Suggestions? It only has 40 hours on it. I'm stumped.

Would have been better if you would have started your own thread.
    So do you have spark?

Sorry for not starting new thread, "newbie".
Yes, I have spark. Also, I forgot to add that I have checked the flywheel key and it is intact. Also has good compression. It's a john deere L85 Riding mower. I've checked all fuses and "stop switches" that I could locate. I am stumped. I would appreciate any help I can get, Other than to use tannerite on it.Lol

Do you get a pop/backfire when cranking like it's firing? When normally starting pull spark plugs and see if fuel is present on them. Might also try adding a little fuel to the cylinders or spray a shot of carb cleaner then try to start.
We need fuel, spark, compression and timing to run.

I Have pulled plugs and sprayed the carb cleaner in. Just cranks. no backfire or tries to start. I have also checked all wires to see if they are causing a short or grounding out. I am running out of things to try. would my next step be to pull the mufflers off and check to see if there is a problem with the rods? I believe that's how you get to them. Correct?
Thank you for all your help so far!

Are you certain you have spark? An inline spark tester(bulb) would be ideal. With fuel and spark you should at least have a backfire or shoot out a flame even with lower compression. What compression do you have?

I am Positive I have spark on both plugs. I do not have a tester. Just put my finger in the hole and it pushed it out pretty hard. What do I take off to check the rods and rings?
Thanks again for all your help.

If I was certain I had fuel, spark and was sure spark plugs weren't fouling out due to fuel. I would make sure flywheel key was square. If it is then check travel of valves. Not much left after that.

O.K. Thank you for all of your help. When I get it figured out I will post the problem. The flywheel key is square so next step is rods and valves.

WOOHOO!!! Both aluminum rods were bent!! Put new ones in. Took a little while and some starter spray but it is running. Put out ALOT of smoke in the beginning but it burned off. Spit and backfired a little but calmed down and is running smooth. Thank you again for all your help.

Are the guides moving? If the push rods bend again I would definately check it out.
