Dirty hand 22 log splitter

I have a dirty hand 22 ton log splitter with a Kohler 3000 series 6.5 hp engine. I changed the engine oil and had to make a new gasket for the carburetor. It’s now pouring gas out the muffler when I pull to start. What could cause this?

The inlet needle in the carburetor is not sealing. Either the float is hanging up or the needle/seat is contaminated.
