Valve adjustments and TDC

I have the troy bilt pony with 17.5 Briggs and Stratton and trying to see which method is best to find the TDC to do intake and exhaust valve adjustments.

Also, which method is best to do the valve adjustments.

1. Doing one valve at a time. Fully close the intake and make exhaust (fully open) valve adjustment then follow by closing the exhaust all the way and open intake to perform intake valve adjustments.

2. Find TDC and pass TDC by 1/4 then do both intake/exhaust valve adjustments.

Welcome! #2 is the best way. To find TDC rotate the flywheel until the exhaust is closing as the intake opens. Now turn the flywheel one complete turn, the piston is now at the top of the compression stroke then rotate another 1/4 turn.

Roger and thank you. This was the easiest explanation compared to others.
