John Deere mod 145

When turning, the front wheels slide. Seems the transaxle is pulling both wheels. Is this supposed to do?

Actually it would be pushing but no it not normal as it has a standard independent rear wheel drive differential. Even it had a K46CR it should not auto lock unless one of the wheels was spinning.  You probably got a spider gear failure. or something had jammed the spider gears.

Thanks for the info. Could it be low on lube?

I would not think so; unless, you are having motion problems other than the locked differential. From looking at the ipl it does appear you have a hydrostatic transaxle. The differential portion operates on the same principle as rear wheel drive vehicles.

Google Differential operation for explanation of operation.
