Craftsman snowblower loses traction

Craftsman 8-26 snowblower is slow to engage in every gear, wheels will also bog down in 3-6 inches of snow as if it lacked power but the engine runs fine... I checked the gear box and everything looks in order, is there an internal shaft/drive that tends to strip or wear out?  Could it be belts or something, it is frustrating to have to push the thing through heavy snow!

It sounds like the friction wheel is worn out or incorrectly adjusted. It is not expensive but depending on the design can be a pain to replace
