The switch grounds the ignition if the oil is low. I would shut the fuel off and drain the carb into a glass jar by removing the bowl. You may find dirt or water.

Thanks for the reply> Ker0412. I finally got my Vanguard Yazoo motor started again, but it only ran for a short time, and cut itself off. The red knob has to be in the correct position, for it to start, and this engine do not have direct marking to show where to set the red knob. depending where you set the red knob, the pull string become harder to pull. Three question: what is that flat black piece, somewhat on top of the carb. it has a flat metal piece on the side of it, that when moving the red knob, the red knob pushing in the flat metal flat piece which push in a red button on the flat black piece????? Can this black piece be defected???? There is also a long wire between the motor muffler and the gas filter housing, it extends under the gas tank with a spring on the end.. It do not move at all, turning the red knob or the white knob, or the knob that has the idle speed from turtle to rabbit. Do this wire/iron rod need to move when cranking the motor???? When I push it with a stick it moves a level over the carb. I cannot find a model for this Vanguard engine, they all look the same on the web, 6.5 HP Animal Engine. I hear my spark plug firing but the motor will not start and keep running. Gas is coming out of the gas fuel line to the carb. The carb plastic piece under the carb appear to have gas in it. What else is keeping me from cracking this motor???????

Ok. Many times while starting the washer you'll need to hold down the wand trigger. The wire with the spring you're speaking of sounds like the throttle spring. It should move when adjusting the throttle lever. The lever with the "Rabbit and turtle" pic is the throttle.

I'm not sure what else it could be. There are numerous reasons engine won't start. How does it run when pressing the trigger to wash? Gunk in the carb? Send a pic if possible.
