troy bilt trimmer

Have a Troy Bilt 4 cycle trimmer. Model TB525CS. Quit running on me today. When I tried to re start it was no compression at all. Is it worth fixing?

Take off valve cover and check the valves.

Probably easiest to check and make sure piston is moving first then check the valves. Check travel of valves.

I'm taking it apart after work. Anything inparticuliar to look for with these valves. If they're bad think I'll get a new trimmer. Cylinder is around $65.00.

To have no compression, piston not moving or valve not closing. Just make sure starter is engaging flywheel, have seen pawns break off and not engage.

Any idea where I can buy just the valves for this trimmer. Other than the intake valve being burnt and sticking the cylinder head, piston and rings seem pretty good.

There are no serviceable parts on the cylinder head, it is only sold as an assembly MTD p/n 753-0228. This is common with the offshore engines, they are too cheap to be worth servicing.

Did you pull the plug to actually see if the piston was moving. Sometimes the the pull cord mechanism internally does not engage the clutching mechanism to catch on the flywheel to turn the crankshaft. So essentially you're looking at a very cheap fix. Check it, you have nothing to lose.

    Good luck

PS: Sorry I should have read up farther or I wouldn't have posted a duplicate of what other have told you.

Read my post again. I have it all apart. The valves and top inside of cylinder head has all burnt and black crap on them. I'm going to soak everything in engine cleaner for a few days and clean everything up. If it doesn't start , then I'll pitch it out.

That why I put the PS on my post. It was an after thing. I edited it to let you know I was sorry for not reading the whole article.
Look up reseat or lap valves on Youtube. I've done it before and it was not hard at all. That is if the seat and valve are not to badly pitted.
