B&S Micro engine not cranking

I have a B&S micro engine, model 21032-0118-E1, which will not crank.  The starter rope pulls and retracts without any problem, but the engine does not turn over.  I suspect the problem is with the starter clutch, since it is attached to the crank shaft.  The only way I know to verify this is to disassemble the housing to see if something is broken on the starter clutch, such as a spring or keyway/shear pin if there is one.  Finding information about this type engine has been somewhat difficult, especially detailed drawings.  I'd like to order the right part and have it on hand so that when I disassemble the housing I can replace the broken part.

Best to disassemble, then sourcing parts.

Thanks for replying, Mikel1.  Yeah, I sort of had the feeling it would be necessary to disassemble and inspect then look for parts.  Thanks for the help.

First to lookup parts on the model you need to add a zero in front the model number.

I am also sending you a PM with a link to the service manual for the Briggs Micro engines as I have the file over on my home forum and I don't publicly post the links.

It does sounds like either pulley teeth are gone, the flywheel clutch dogs are stuck out, or the flywheel is loose are shearing the key.

    Hi AVB,

As Mikel1 said, I'll have to disassemble the unit to see the whys and whatfors.  If the starter clutch is shot, I know I can order a replacement.  If it's the flywheel, then according to one site I was on, this part may no longer be available.

What I have been trying to find is an exploded view of the engine, so I can see how everything fits together.  The only thing I've found so far are exploded views of certain parts of the engine which show that parts location on a parts list.  Micro engines just don't seem to be used as often as small engines.

Hopefully whatever part is needed can be ordered without any difficulties.
