B&S 875 EX Overheats/Cuts Out

This engine is on a Troy-Bilt pressure washer. It fires up and runs great for 3 minutes then begins to surge and then cuts out. Let it cool down for half hour - repeat process. Have cleaned carb, new fuel, plug fires, fins all undamaged, cleaned bowl and float, springs all functional, oil level good, compression good, fuel tank pressure fine -what am I missing? The thermostat doesn’t seem to be an issue since the carb is fully open when hot and fully closed when cooled down. Should I just purchase a new carburetor? If so, I can’t find anywhere to tell me what number it is. So many question and so few solutions. Bought this thing new in 2017 with no issues. Winterized it. Took it out to use and I encounter this! HELP!!!🤪

There should a sticker on the engine with either the model-type or serial number which I can use to look-up the engine.

Meanwhile when the engine shuts down does it have spark? Ignition coils can shut down due heat when they are going bad. Also have you remove the engine shroud to check for a mouse bed?

Do you have a service center nearby, the unit should still be under warranty. I would install an inexpensive inline spark tester and watch it when the engine starts to act up, if the color goes from blue to yellow or is intermittent you have found your problem.

Ok. Not sure about a service center. I would be more inclined to just replace the ignition coil and call it a day. I go online and find that this motor has similar issues, but the solutions I see are all things I have checked. But the ignition coil is NOT one I have considered. Where can I buy an inline spark tester? Maybe that is the way to go. As you can see - I am a bit bullheaded. I want to fix this darn thing!

You should be able to purchase a spark tester through Pep Boys or something similar. Look for one with a neon bulb, the cheaper ones can be hard to see.
