Briggs v-twin backfiring but runs great on one cylinder

I have a 2008 JD LA135 with BS MODEL 407777-0188-B1. It is popping thru exhaust a lot and once in awhile backfiring thru carb. If I remove one of the plug wirings, either side, then it runs perfect without any popping/backfiring.
I have replaced the fuel cap, fuel lines and filter, new gas, new fuel pump, new carb, new air cleaner, new spark plugs, one new coil/module. I have checked the flywheel key, valve setting, compression, disconnected the kill harness with diodes with no change, verified spark.
I have to emphasize that I can run it on one cylinder with absolutely no problem but with both cylinders firing it backfires/popping.

Sounds strange for a v-twin. When you disconnected the kill harness was it from both coils or an another way?

Disconnected from both coils at same time at the coil. I know it is strange. I have been working on it of and on for more than a week. I have posted on several sites but no answer yet.
