Low compression hard starting

Briggs & Stratton 6? hp Intek vertical shaft engine, Model 120612,Type 0132-E2, Code 3902 20F. I am told Briggs does not make a direct replacement engine. Estimated 250 hours of use. It is used on a pressure washer. When last used it was hard starting but when I finally got it running it would only run on 1/2-3/4 choke with a little puffing back through the carb. I cleaned the carb (twice) with no change. Compression was about 30psi. The overhead valves and seats look OK. No grooves.Cylinder does not show much wear based on lip at top of cylinder due to ring wear. Should I just replace the rings or is there other possible problems? Maybe someone could point me to a replacement.

The problem is the low compression. You should have done a leakdown test before opening the cylinder ow that you have open the cylinder you need to mic it to check for wear as it maybe ovalled, tapered, or worn more then you think. Also check the ring end gaps.
It can be honed to .020 over if needed but you need to use a ridge hone setup no flex hone.
