Intek V-Twin Bending Push Rods

I have a 22 HP Intek V-Twin that is about 12 years old. Every few times I use it, the intake push rod gets bent. Someone had said to look at the valve guide. If I understood the repair manual correctly, it says if the guide is bad you need to replace the head. Wondering if the valve guide is likely the cause and if so do I have to replace the head? Thanks for any direction you can give.

Very likely and yes you normally you replace the head that the push rod is being bent on since replace valve guides are not a available.

You can try driving the valve guide back in place and staking it but it is no guarantee that this will work long term.

A friend of mine has a fix for the valve guide problem, if you would like to try it. Just send me a pm if interested

If it is the ring of center punches around the valve guide that is only a temporary fix. Now straight knurling the valve guide is a more permanent fix but it must done within reason and the guide will need pressing back in to the correct height and finished ream in case the inside diameter had change during this process. Much easier for a layman to just change out the head as he would know it is done right.

    Actually neither.
If he wants to replace the head then I have no problem at all with that.
