Ariens 926LE Drive

Hello, my Ariens only drives in the slowest setting. The drive seems to be shot. Someone told me to change the drive belt but for the life of me I can't find it. The repair guy wants $85 an hour but I don't want to waste money and will attempt to do it myself and looking for help.

Seal off the gas cap to prevent spillage and tip the machine on it's nose. Remove the belly pan and observe the friction wheel as it moves across the disc, it should maintain the same distance. Methinks the shaft bearings are worn.

I always love these guys that thinks repairs are a waste money. They take things apart that don't need to come apart and then expect us techs to put it back together for free. It usually ends up costing the customer at least twice as much.

I did a fellow a favor by charging only $50 to put his riding mower that brought in box on the back of his pickup. He even bitched about me $50 for two days work. I will never do that again; unless, I charge full shop rates.

Tools are not cheap for the shops as I currently have nearly 10K in tools and that not even counting the cleaning and other supplies that are needed. I just did a ATV job Tuesday took an hour and I spent $45 for a couple new tools just to do that job. If it wasn't for me selling a couple bearings I would have made $0 on that repair.

While we are complaining about stuff why does this site have confusing forums. Like there is a section for manufactures like Ariens and then there is a separate section for snowblowers. I saw this question pop up about Bigpal's Ariens and thought it was one I had replied to a couple days back but could not find my reply. Then just by luck stumbled on the fact that the one I had replied to was in the Ariens not the snowblower section.

Enough bitching so here is what I had posted about the other snowblower:
Note that one was about a ST824 not the 926LE in this thread but everything else applies!
    *********************************************************************
Not to be a pain but do you have a serial number for your machine? I took a look at the Ariens parts page and seems there have be a different versions of the ST824:
    https://parts.ariens.com/...=ARN#/s/ARN/ST824//1/y

And note that if you have the model and serial number Ariens has many manuals available for free down loads, Parts, Owners and Repair Manuals. Some even in French or Spanish! Also note that ST824 is NOT a model number but a sales number, model number would be something like 924050. That should be on machine where the serial number is located.

To see if they have your manuals for down load go to this page and fill in the numbers:
    http://apache.ariens.com/cgibin/ctrg0005?SESSIONID=zku40y0b1wsmiaaujbtspu2e&Site=ARIENSS

One more link, If you need help finding or understanding the model and serial number try this link, note when I went to it it took a long time to open up:

    http://apache.ariens.com/images/findmodelserial2013.pdf

    ***************************************************************
EDIT!!!! I see that some of those links are not working today. If nothing else works start at the base site:
    https://parts.ariens.com
    And go from there.

One is Brand specific and the other is generalize. If it was on the forum I manage it the specific threads could be cross linked by the moderator. Even as an admin I miss things like this on PPETEN at times.

A lot of the questions are not specific to a brand or product, Ariens makes a lot of product besides snow blowers. So many are also rebadged so problems cross brand lines. As a matter of fact, Ariens sold at Home Depot is or at least was a rebadged Husqvarna! As a mod I try to place posts in the appropriate forum but do miss quite a few.

Totally agree. That is why I ask for model numbers and some times even the serial number. It is like Murrays as there are at least 3 different manufactures besides the original Murray Ohio group. It makes finding the right parts or giving a good info otherwise a challenge at times.

But we are getting offtrack and get back to the OP problem.

Back to the question about the belt to give anywhere near a correct answer one needs more information.

The bare minimum would be the model and serial numbers as Roy and ABV mention many companies sell different versions of their machines and sometimes use the same "Sales Model" for very different machines.

If changing a belt on this machine is the same as the one I changed on one of my Ariens blowers to day it is a simple job of removing all of three bolts. Ten minute job including washing hands and putting tools away.

but I'm not going to go through a step by step explanation only to find out the machine in question is nothing like mine. For example mine has a single belt to run everything where some machines have one belt for the blower and a different belt for the drive wheels.
