Tension Spring

I have a Ariens 10000 series Snow Blower. I need to replace the Tension spring under the machine. Has anyone ever replaced this and how to do it without dropping the bottom. The location seems impossible to get your hands up there.

As you did not give full model or serial numbers I can not look for you. But you could take a look here to see if Ariens has the service manual available on line for your machine:

Thanks for getting back on this. Model 10970. Serial 1599.

Might be best to try contacting Ariens directly as those numbers don't seem to show up in the Ariens search section.
I'm assuming these numbers came off a gas engine walk behind, might I be wrong on that?

Did some more digging and think I found what you need, not sure why Ariens does not link to the manual using the numbers you supplied.

But here is how to find it:  Go to this link: https://www.ariens.com/en-us/manuals

Then click on find manuals and in place of your numbers use these Model Number 910017  Serial Number 012735, trust me on this!

Then Click on "Search" then when the page opend up scroll down and you should see three manuals available, select the second one down on left and download and save it. Then open the file and scroll down to the second page there you will see a list of years and the last model listed for 1969 is........10970 you have a winner!

Now scroll way down to about page 40 or 41 and there will be the instructions on the drive assembly. Probably not very detailed but that's what Ariens shows. I have had a few apart over the years so I know it's not a five minute job but if yo take pictures and note with the parts breakdowns in the manual not that bad.

Don't know about where you are but don't expect to need the snowblowers much if at all till November so now is a good time to get familiar with your machine. If you get stuck I may have some pictures that would help.

Looks like dropping the bottom is the best way in.
