Poulan 300EX Drive Belt?
I have an older Poulan 46" riding mower with a Foote/dana D6800 transaxle. I used the mower for the first time a couple of weeks ago and cut grass with it for a coupe of hours. I parked it overnight and brought it from my rural property to my home the next day. I added some 80w/90 gear oil to the rear transaxle. I never adjusted any belts. Next time I started the mower, it wouldn't move. I hear a slight whining noise with the clutch out (belt tensioner, really) while the mower is running. With the mower in gear, clutch out, I can easily roll the mower around. With the mower rear end jacked off the ground, both wheel turn fine (opposite directs as they should). With the clutch out, I can pull the drive belt to the side of the mower about 3". With the rear end jacked up, clutch out, the rear wheels turn. As soon as I let it down, nothing. The trans axle is a geared unit, not a hydro unit. I took the mower deck off and the belt has not slipped off any of the pulleys. This is an old belt, not sure how old. Also, when it was driving, the mower didn't move until the clutch was almost out at it fullest.
I think its the belt. Thoughts from others?
Thanks in advance!
