8hp Briggs 190402 throttle issue

I just pick up an old that had been sitting in a shed for 8yrs plus. After cleaning everything , including the carb, it started right up but I noticed that the throttle control would move. When I look at the control plate I totally confused. The throttle cable is connected to the governor block along with a manual slide bar. There is no way either can move more than a 1/4 inch given this set up. Where can I get information on how to set up the control plate?

Thanks
Jmr

I would say it is a little over 8 yrs considering it is a 1988 model. I would need to download a copy of the Briggs 270962 Single Cylinder L-Head service manual carefully look at all the different ways they connected these updraft carburetors and decide which setup you are looking at. The information you looking for is in section 4.

I pulled down the copy of the manual and it still doesn't line up with what I have. I think someone cobbled this together because the setup contains parts from three types of setups: fixed adjustable, manual slide, cable adjustable. I'm going to remove the excess parts and set it up as cable adjustable.
    Thanks for the help

Could very well be. I seen all kinds of rigged setups that had to straighten out.
