Carb question

I'm trying to bring a 640288 carburetor back to life. It sat for a while and full of crud. There is a small hole next to where the bowl bolt screws in. It has rust in it and I am not clear if it should go all the way through to the inside of the carburetor. I do see a place near the butterfly where it might be part of but unclear. Can someone tell me what this hole is for and if a wire should go through it cleanly or not? I'm just not clear if it's clogged with dirt or not. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. That hole should have a metal bead. You should be able to access a small opening in the bowl nut threads leading to the passage below the bead with a fine piece of wire, I use a small welding tip cleaner, and work it back and forth. The passage is part of the idle circuit and gets plugged causing all kinds of problems.

Thank you Roy for the information. I have a couple of clarifications if you don't mind. Is the bead you reference what I circled? I am able to run a wire in the "B" section but not "A". Does that bead or BB prevent the wire from going all the way through the entire Passage?

The BB should be at end of the passage, it looks to be missing in your picture. The one you circled is the end of the small passage that I talked about, it enters from the threaded portion of the post then turns upward. Being as the factory can't drill around corners they drill two passages then cap the ends.
