Propeller working shaft spinning inside Auger Box

247887550 Craftsman (made by MTD)

I hate to get rid of blower. Runs great.

Problem:
Propeller spins, shaft spins going into the auger gear box, but augers will not turn.  All 4 shear bolts are fine. I'm guessing its a gear inside the box?  Or is there a pin by chance on the end of this shaft that has somehow come off?  Please help.

On Jacks site here I see this:

MTD 91704861 Worm Gear

Part#:  91704861

Do you think thats problem.  I do not want to spend 150.00 on entire assembly?

Any help is so greatly appreciated.

Well the best thing I can say is if it won't work now why not disassemble it to see what is wrong?

Not familiar with this exact drive but any right angle drive needs two gears, one on the input shaft and one on the output shaft(that would be the one the augers are mounted on).

You have some time before it snows so take it apart and see what the real problem is. If only one gear is bad you might be able to fix it for as little as $25.00 and a little time. And worst case if there is no repair possible you will feel good about spending the $150 knowing you found the problem!

If it helps check the price on a new snow blower and you will see $150.00 looks much better!
