KT17 misfires after new fuel pump

Hello all. Have an older Arien GT17 with a Kohler KT17 engine that quit on me. Had no fuel, replaced fuel pump. Now it runs but misfiring. Misfire stops when air filter is removed. Tried adjusting carb per book but doesn’t help. Even if I put just filter housing on with out filter, still misfires. Almost like it is too rich. Any thoughts?

The carburetor likely has debris in it probably flakes of fuel line material. Clean it and replace the line and filter if it has one.

Also could be the worn needle and seat for the float can not handle the new pressure from the fuel pump. If so then carburetor kit 2572702-S would need to be installed.

Update: New fuel pump (“Uxcell “ from Amazon) was dripping fuel into crankcase causing rich condition. Have a new one on order from Ariens dealer. Thanks for your suggestions!

It seems a lot of the after market parts are faulty in one or another. I had nothing but with carbs and belts. I have now basically completely given up on these parts unless they come from the OEM.
