Older Bunton Mower not moving

I have an older Bunton Mower (probably really old). Model #B52-14K, a 52 inch deck. It is (was) in pretty good shape and well-cared for. In the middle of mowing, I smelled what I thought was a burning belt. I immediately stopped the machine. All the belts looked good, but the machine would not move when put in gear. It seems like a gearbox issue. The pulley that feeds the gearbox spins, but NOTHING happens when I put it in gear. I changed out the oil, which was new last summer. I checked online, and a new grab seems prohibitively expensive 300-500 dollars. I'm looking for a used one, but no luck locally. I am wondering if this is a fixable or common problem with older Buntons, or if it could be something other than the gearbox? Thanks for any thoughts.
