Echo PAS-280 trimmer won't run at all

My client usually has me work on his tractors, trucks, etc. but this time gave me his Echo PAS-280 trimmer to fix. It had worked well, then sputtered.  When he brought it to me, I gave it a shot of starting fluid and it fired but wouldn't stay running.

Aha! Carburetor.

Took it home and I can't get the least sputter from it.  Checked plug, it's clean, dry, heated it and dried it out, and it sparks nicely when grounded on the bracket.   But give a cough, it will not.

I plan to replace the plug, knowing that some defects will keep a plug from firing under compression.  But really?  I've fixed dozens of gas engines and this one is behaving very badly.  My knowledge has failed me..it should at least sputter when given a whiff of ether, choked or not.

Wouldn't hurt to try a new spark plug and also make sure spark arrestor screen is clean.
So did you clean the carb?

So, why won't a working plug give at least a pop with a bit of ether?  Always has for me, as a test for spark, and I've been working on mowers and saws for 50 years.

    got new plug, will try.

Yeah usually get a pop off if there's fuel and spark.

Replacing the plug did it.  Even though the plug fired reliably while hanging on the side grounded to the engine, it didn't fire when installed.

I replaced the NGK plug with an Autolite 2976 Copper core.  In older tractors, the copper core wires and simple plugs are best. Somehow resistance wires and plugs with the high tech core design aren't as robust.

Who needs resistance/supression while running a weedwhacker?  Listening to the radio when working?

Well, I always wear ear protection with the radio. I need the Resistor plugs.

For best performance and ease of starting i always use NGK plugs in all Japanese equipment.

Being a amatuer radio operator I am always getting  complaint that I am the culprit messing up radios and tvs.Even it was the electric that was doing I still got the blame.

After I started using antennas that people don't recolonized as an antenna the complaints went away. Some of have asked what I was using for antenna and I say my frig. It a real conversation piece  when I am using my BBQ grill as an antenna.

Please for the peace of the neighborhood use resistor plug. They reduce radio inference.
