Engine only runs on choke

Hello, recently I went to repair an old Solo trimmer, it has been sitting for some time and wasnt  fully drained of gas. When started it only runs on choke, I have cleaned the carburetor and tried messing with the mixture screws. I have noticed that the gasket that connects the small block after the carburetor to the engine is a bit torn, could this be the source of my problem? and is there any way to confirm it?

thanks in advance

Try squirting carb cleaner around the block, if the engine bogs down you have an air leak. It sounds like the carb is not clean enough. I am not familiar with Solo products and whether the carb is rebuildable, you may need to replace it.

Without knowing the model number we can research it, it is only a guessing game. Heck you could posting about a Solo beard trimmer.

For 2 cycles it can be low compression, plug spark arrester, stiffen metering diaphragm, or even a fuel pump diaphragm.

Its a solo 134 2 cycle trimmer, its atleast 10 years old. The membrane, gaskets and needle have been replaced on the carb. I will send a picture when i check the gasket which I think is making it leak.

Okay. Did you set the metering lever height when you installed the kit on that WALBRO HDA 155 carburetor. Set to low will cause the engine to starve for fuel mix. Also mention the intake could leaking especially at the impulse port.

Also removed the muffler and check the piston and cylinder condition. There should be no scoring of the piston or cylinder. While the muffler is off give the engine a try in case it is a plugged muffler.

Plus do you need a copy of the IPL?

I believe I used the old metering lever, the issue is the same without the muffler. I opened it up and  I think I saw a small brownish/black spot on the side of the piston, I will take another look at that tommorow.

I believe this is my culprit, gasket between the block and the part that the carburetor attaches to (intake manifold?) If its not clear in the photo it has a tear on it. Which material should I use to make it because I doubt theres spares for it.

Found this picture of the piston, is this an issue?

After replacing the fuel lines the issue is still here. I have noticed that the carburetor has issues with priming, when priming it barely gets the primer bulb a bit of gas, upon inspection the side with the flap valves is filled with gas that got pumped in, is there any adjustment to me made at the diaphragm side or could it be that my rebuild kit came with bad gaskets?
