Carburetor Shaft/Spring Linkage Diagram (#494218)?

Hi - new member to the forum!

I have a 1993-era Toro lawnmower with a 4HP Briggs engine. Just rebuilt the carburetor, but am having trouble finding an accurate diagram for how the choke shaft and spring (part #494218), connect or interface with throttle/linkage. There appears to be a spring missing from the current setup, which is not surprising. I ordered a new shaft/spring but I can’t seem to find any instructions for how the spring connects.

None of the the exploded parts diagrams I’ve seen, including on Briggs site, clearly indicate this connection. The engine is 27 years old but still runs well. Would love to get it really purring. ; )

Any ideas? Thanks!

- Mike

This is why you take pictures before you start tearing stuff apart. Can you give us the model and ype number from the engine so we can see what you are looking at.

Hi Roy - Thanks for offering your help@ I did take pics prior to taking it apart; I only learned the spring was missing when I went online to order a new choke shaft and foam washer. Trying to get the old gal back to fully working order.

The Briggs Engine is #122702-3171, the Toro itself is a Recycler II, model #20433

Thanks again!

This may not help much the return spring connect to a stationary point on the control bracket.

Received and installed the shaft and foam washer. The spring anchor point is still perplexing though. From the diagram it looks like it might attach to the same point that the thicker larger spring attaches (IMG_0353). But I tried it there and it wouldn't hold. Spring snapped right off (and bent, darn it). Any ideas?
