Craftsman ZTS 6000 Engine Shroud

Hello,  I have a Craftsman ZTS 6000 with a Briggs 26HP Platinum motor.  The plastic shroud that covers my motor got destroyed.  Sears calls it a Seat Deck.  Apparently the part is discontinued and I can't find a replacement.  My question is would it be OK to remove it completely.  I was worried that it helped to cool the motor somehow.  (There is a little piece of foam around the top of motor). 
I appreciate any advice on this situation.
