RedMax GZ4500 Oil Pump Issue

Good afternoon, I have a ~ 14 yo RedMax GZ4500 chainsaw and the oil pump is not putting out oil to the chain bar port. I'm very good at cleaning out all my equipment so I don't think it's clogged anywhere. Oil is dripping out the bottom of the chainsaw, so...either all pumps leak or perhaps a tube has come free. I'd like to fix this, if possible, I'm not a mechanically inclined person, but I could try. Now, the issue is how to get the clutch assembly removed?  I'd rather not pay a mechanic a diagnostic fee to be told the pump needs to be replaced and end up paying as much as I paid for the whole saw. Any help, or video or anything will be greatly appreciated. I did go look at a new chainsaw, Stihl Wood Boss, so...maybe buy myself a new saw as well. Would just like to determine if my RedMax if fixable without paying a lot. Thanks in advance!

Well since it is highly likely that you do not the clutch removal tool it will beyond you even for loose hoses  but it is likely either the pump or its drive gear provide you have already cleaned the bar chain groove. The pump kit (PN 521586201) lists for around $58.00. Now I did see one on eBay for $30.00 but it is not currently available.

But it sounds like you not willing to pay for some else that knows what they are doing to repair saw so it is best just go get yourself a new saw.

Sorry but we can not do our work for free and some shops me charges a bare minimum for handheld equipment just hoping to get in more profitable repairs. Even in my this repair would be around $100 including parts as we must pay shipping charges most times.

Thank you for your comment and I wasn't asking anyone to do it for free as I understand we all make a living one way or another. I've spoken with several local fix it shops and an $80 diagnostic fee is just something I'm not willing to pay. Well, it was a damn good chainsaw for the decade I used it...stuff just wears out. Reckon I know what my upcoming birthday present to myself will be. Again, appreciate you taking the time and sharing your knowledge!

Forgive for that comment as I do have customers that come my shop wanting the work done for and bring their own parts. Just can't do it besides the tools and electricity are part of my overhead that must be paid for.

A lot consumers just don't realize that over 3/4 of the time we spend on a machine is usually diagnostics. Some shops have a set minimum charge for any work including diagnostics. Even me charging at 3/4 of my normal rates it still can get expensive for some folks. Matter of fact I may spend up to 4 hours repairing a handheld piece of equipment but only charge a hour minimum charge. My rule of thumb here if the bill appears to more 50% of replacement I usually just tell the customer up front to just buy a new unit.

Also when the customer start trying to lock me into a price I just them on their merry way to another shop. Many use to gripe about my $55 hourly rate until they get a taste of a place like John Deere that charge $100 per hour and they don't anyone a break either.

A good example of a problem machine is the JD Z920M that is in the shop. Receiving running poorly. Found carburetor problems. When I pulled the carburetor found that one of the screws was missing and most likely on top of the piston. Now I got the pull the head to look for the screw and hope there is no damage otherwise. Upon further checking I found the left hydro axle seal leaking. Oh you would think oh that is simple to fix but it is not. This is because the hub is cold welded to axle so the whole transaxle has to be remove in order to remove the axle. I got lucky on this unit as it only took 30 minutes to pull plus another 30 minutes to clean it before I could disassemble it. Now will take another 45 minutes to reinstall it. Then I got carb and engine repairs to complete which is more time. I am looking at 5-6 hours labor plus parts. At least it is not like the Z925A that took 8 hours to remove the whole rear assembly just to replace one of the transaxles. That customer had a bill of $2500 from my shop and an estimate of nearly $4000 from the JD shop.
