Husqvarna 2007 125L string trimmer won't run after rebuild.

My 125L Husq. string trimmer was not running for more than a minute or so before shutting down. I told myself, "no big deal, I'll just rebuild it". After all, they are a very simple engine, and I'm a fair hand with a wrench.
I purchased an aftermarket piston, ring, and cyl. group kit. It came with the new base gaskets. I also ordered new crank seals and aftermarket carb. which I've adjusted to what should be a starting mix.
So after complete teardown and parts replacement, the engine will not fire.
I've checked the spark, and it gets a strong blue spark. But just in case, I've adjusted the flywheel coil gap to .012 as per spec.
Now, my compression gage only reads 60 lbs on the new cyl/piston kit. It aso read the same on the first kit I was sent, so I reported it as defective for a refund, and reordered a better kit for more money from a different supplier.
The low compression could be because the compression tester has an 18'' hose between the engine and gage with the pressure release on the gage, and the very small compression stroke of the 28cc 2-stroke engine may not be overcoming the hose expansion.
I checked the gage against my outboard, and it reads fine, but it's a much bigger engine and a 4 stroke.
I thought I understood how a 2 stroke works, but this has me scratching my head in wonder.
 And suggestions?

You pretty much need more than 100 PSI to run...

I gather your testing compression with the throttle held wide open(when cranking)?

You may try a couple of teaspoons of 2 stroke oil down the cylinder.  This helps increase the sealing of the rings.  "Spritzing" a little 2 stroke fuel mix down the carb may help to determine if adding fuel helps..

I've often had carbs (set from the factory) need quite a bit of adjusting out of the box...

The low PSI has me concerned...

Yeah, that's my main concern as well. But two cyl kits in a row putting out the same pressure?
I may have to rent a different compression tester.
