Subaru/ robin ex30 low compression

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some guidance because I’m quite lost right now.

I bought a generator with a ex30 engine that seemed to be in good shape but did not run, and it was cheap.

I got it home and realized it was very easy to turn over.

It was easy to spin over and the I decided to do a compression test, only 60 psi, it does have a decompression system but took off the rockers to see if it could be the timing or the decompression system making it easy to turn over.

I also do need to time it correctly, since I messed it up, when I took off the head, the cylinder walls were immaculate and everything felt smooth. So I’m thinking valves

I’m at a stand still for now

Thank you!

First, I'd flip the head upside down and fill the combustion chamber with Seafoam, light oil, etc.  You want to check for any fluid seeping past the valves.  If no fluid, the head should be good.

Before taking the head off, did you check to see if both rockers were opening fully?
And was valve lash proper?
