Breather reed flap
What causes oil to sip out thru the reed and into exhaust intake to carb.could breather reed be bad.its on a 8.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine

The oil your getting blown out the breather is from "blow by" (worn piston rings), or a worn/damaged cylinder.
Compression is getting past the rings, into the crankcase, then forced out of the breather...
This can be confirmed by doing a
leak down
test.. You'll hear/feel air escaping from the combustion chamber come out thru the oil dip stick.
I just had a 6.75 Briggs, same thing. I tore it down as I needed the crankshaft out of it.. The ring end gap looked good but there was some pretty bad scoring on 2 sides of the cylinder bore. That was apparently causing my blow by
