GX390 ignition coil

On a previous thread I am trying to fix my kick back when starting my GX390.  I took the front cover off to look at the coil.  The coil was not connected to a kill wire and there is a wire harness just hanging.  I think the previous owner changed the coil with the wrong one.  Do I need a coil with a connector or can I just jump the connector and add the ground wire to the coil?  If this is the wrong coil,  it could be my kick back problem.  Thanks for the help. The coil below is the correct coil with the 4 wire connector.  The one on the engine only has the kill wire connector.

I don't quite know what you mean by "jump the connector and add the ground wire to the coil".

I'm pretty sure that the coil has a kill wire connector, either as a wire coming out of the coil body or as a lug to which you can attach the kill wire.

I don't know that it matters, but maybe you have the coil reversed. The diagrams show the ignition wire coming out of the right side of the coil (the clockwise side). Got a photo?

Please explain what you mean by "jump". What are you jumping to what?

This gx390 has a 4 wire connector for the coil.  The coil that is on the engine has the one kill wire connector but is the wrong one because it doesn't have the 4 wire connector. I added a picture of the correct coil.  I can't seem to add picture from my camera because they are too big.

I decided to buy the correct coil.

Just curious, do you have spark at the plug?

Did you try, if it fits, flipping the coil over as suggested above?

Does the flywheel magnet align at TDC (and the valves closed on the compression stroke).

I would love to show a photo but I can't seem to get the photo's small enough for this forum!  I used a different camera and took pictures of the coil and connector:

If you'd like a PDF of the service manual, give me an email address and I'll send it. A diagram of the four pin connection is on page 113.

Thanks for the offer!  I don't think I need one right now since I purchased the correct coil that takes the 4 pin connector.  Thanks again!

I sure hope it works for you. I suspect it won't, but I'll be happy to be proven wrong. Please let us know.
