Compatible replacement fuel tank

Hello, I'm working on a husqvarna Yth2148c riding mower and the plastic fuel tank has some cracks in it. Is there a plastic tank repair that will withstand gas with or without ethanol? Or is there a suitable tank that can be swapped in place of the oe one as that tank has been discontinued.

I would be open to a good used one if someone happens to have one and doesn't want an arm and a leg for it.
Trying to repair this for a neighbor so keeping cost low is kinda a good thing.

Thanks for any assistance you all can give.

This am I just applied a sealer to a B&S plastic fuel tank using
a product called KRS.
Part of the tank seam was leaking as well as the lower corner:

It's only been 6 hours dry time, 96 hours is preferred...
So far it's pretty much set up and any spillage is extremely tough.

I'll know more in a couple of days to see how it holds up..
I'll post back how well it works...

BTW, it's not listed to use on plastic tanks, but steel, fiberglass, etc..

Thanks, that would be great, I've talked to jb weld and they say their fuel tank repair won't hold up to gas fumes. Such a pain, their was nothing wrong with the tank but his ranch hand took it all apart because he said it wasn't getting enough fuel.

It just needed another fuel pump as the two aftermarket ones I ordered both failed. So he strapped it on the hood and it's fallen and been kicked around.

Now it's a pain to find one and am gonna have a worthless machine if my neighbor dosent want to spring for a used tank if I can find one.

So far, I'm impressed with it. I've had a small fan blowing into it 24/7. It'll be out in the sun today.

As stated earlier, what dripped out on the bench is very hard and I still have it stuck on some fingers, so that'll have to wear off over time..

So which products did you use from them? Is you paint it on the outside or dump it inside the tank?

It gets dumped inside the tank.

I'll be fueling it later today (already re-assembled)

Does you tank have just a hair line crack or cracks where the plastic isn't "level / even" anymore?

I'll update later today with some suggestions re your tank.

Ok, it's holding fuel just fine..

Again, mine was a pin hole and a horizontal seam that was leaking (not much of a leak)..

For as big as your tank is, some suggestions:
- Scruff the area cracked, orbital sander or such to rough up the plastic
- Use JB Weld HIGH TENSILE strength on the EXTERIOR ONLY:

-Using some cut down and straightened paper clips (3/4-1" in length) IN the JB weld before it sets
will make it MUCH STRONGER.. It'll look like stitches (maybe an inch apart from each other)

- Once that sets up, then I'd use the tank sealer..

Just to note, that sealer did seep out thru the pin hole (just a little). The horizontal seam, nothing oozed out but IS sealed up.. The JB Weld will strengthen the crack (but not touch the fuel), the sealer should keep fuel away from the JB Weld..

Please post back how it goes...

Thanks, keep me posted on how yours is holding up. Mine has a crack in the area where the window for the fuel level will be and I want to say a couple hair line ones on the side if I can find em again.

It's about a 4 gal tank I believe, so not sure which kit is best for my application to seal it. Are you using non ethanol gas? I've never found anything that will stand up to the ethanol. I try to get him to run non ethanol but it's about a 50 mile drive to town to get non ethanol so he just buys regular fuel.

The machine is a very old sod cutter with an updraft carberator (B&S about a 10 HP).

Its's a customers (Tree guy) and his machines get abused by his crew..
It's going to see regular ethanol fuel.

I did a repair on a plastic RV holding tank (actually, part of it was gone when
a tire blew and took it out) with fiberglass.

What I think would work for you is fiberglass. Again scuff up the plastic real good
and layer the glass over the entire damaged area. Getting a good bond to the plastic is the key.
Several layers should be plenty.

They make fiberglass tanks for boats and other machines so it is do-able..
