Is it normal for the bottom end vent coming into the airbox to spit oil into the airbox??

It should vent, not spit oil..
Sounds like some serious ring blow by pushing oil out of the vent.

Maybe the oil level is very high. Check the level.
If it's very high, check whether the float valve in the carburetor is not properly sealing and lots of gas in dribbling into the engine when it's shut down.
