Husqvarna starting problem

This is in regards to my Husqvarna riding mower with an OHV Briggs and Stratton motor.  The mower runs and operates great. The problem lies when starting.  When you start it you push clutch in and turn the key.  What typically occurs is you have to turn the key to the start position (you can hear the power) although nothing turns or clicks.  You then have to go through the same process 2, 3 maybe 4 times, each time turn off from the start position, finally it will turn over and START.

HELP>   Solenoid, Starter, Battery...??

Thank you for any assistance.

Loose connection, faulty ignition switch or safety switch faulty.

Are you pushing brake pedal or do you have the brake pedal locked with parking brake when starting?

Do you have a good multimeter?

I push the brake down like I always have.  It is not locked.  I do have a good multi-meter.

Thanks again for your help

I would check the connections first. If you didn't find any loose connections and all wires are tight then proceed, it will be easiest to use parking brake to lock down brake pedal for testing. Looking at wiring schematic, should be two small wires connected to terminals on starter solenoid one is a white wire and the other is a black wire. Disconnect white wire from starter solenoid, probe wire with positive (red) of the multimeter and use the negative (black) to a good ground, tester needs to be in VDC setting. You have to turn key when checking the voltage on this white wire.
