How do these motors make spark

I have a Ryobi ryi2200 inverter generator.
It does not have spark.
I thought I was a pretty good with engines but this thing has stumped me.
I don't know how it generates spark.
Does anyone know if the inverter system is needed for the engine to create a spark and run.
I have replaced the coil, the spark plug, the ignition module and the ignition pulse generator.  I have traced wires with a tester and nothing.
I should get a spark at the plug when I pull the cord with the plug grounded  but nothing.
What am I not understanding about this system?
