VALVE CLEARANCE

I bought this poulin lawn tractor from a guy, who had had something wrong with his 22 horse power engine, so he put a 16 hp engine on it, and the 16 wouldn't run,I actually bought the tractor just for the wheels on it, because I had an old wheel horse that the wheels had rusted completely thru. So I decided to do something with the 16 hp. When I took it apart I found out the main thing that was wrong with it was one of the valve seats had popped out, but that engine must have gotten really hot, the plastic intake had melted a little, anyway I got it back together and got it running, but after setting the valve clearance a couple time, after watching some utube videos, each time it runs a little different, so I'm still not sure I have the clearance right.

It's an over head valve engine, so does anyone know what those clearances should be? I think I wound up with the exhaust at .006 and the intake at .009 ?

Can you give us the make and model of the engine?

I forgot to say that it's a Briggs and Stratton engine, and the model is 31c707 type 0154E1.

I like to roll it around twice to TDC compression then recheck.
