retrofit electric pto clutch on craftsman mower

i have a craftsman 247.288841 (lt2000) lawn tractor. I keep breaking the engagement cable that runs from the engagement lever to the tensioner pulley arm on the deck. the driveshaft on the motor has a small pulley up top for the wheel drive, and a larger pulley on bottom for driving the mower deck. I can bolt the tensioner spring from the engagement cable in place on the tension pulley arm of the deck - if you anyone knows of a clutch that will fit as a retrofit on the crankshaft (including the small pulley above the clutch for wheel drive) and be able to be bolted to the deck. any ideas? I can handle the wiring, fuses, and leave the old interlock in place to operate clutch engagement. Would be a shame to junkyard a $2000 mower over a $17 cable flaw (I've broken 5 cables this year, after replacing the pulley arm, engagement lever, and engagement lever bushings). enough tolerances are gone that replacement cables just cant handle the strain.

Hmmm I haven't had any problems with MTD G decks breaking PTO cable except when cable was rusted up in its housing. Sounds you definitely got something binding or you have the wrong deck on it.

As the upper pulley you may get one from a Cub Cadet to fit within the belt retainer wings of the frame. As the PTO clutch that not much of problem other than the anti rotate arm and belt size change.

the tractor is factory assembly, bought it new myself in 2011 from sears. no rust at play, broke 5 cables (mix of OEM and aftermarket) this year alone. all the moving and wear parts before and after the engagement cable have been replaced, and the belts. where the plastic end of the cable sleeve snaps into the framemount below the engagement lever, the plastic end of the cable is the primary point of failure. the arm on the tensioner pulley and associated parts were replaced after the 1st cable broke.

are electronic clutches and driveshaft pulleys not as make/model specific as say ATV parts? that is, am i just matching up diameters, lengths, and rotation directions? fyi, this is the pulley assembly on the crankshaft of my mower: 756-04196A

I've never dealt with electric clutches on lawn tractors, but i'm a quick study, theres next to no information available online about retrofitting. does the clutch just affix to the end of the crankshaft, with a drive pulley above it on the shaft, and an arm bolted horizontally from the clutch to the frame to hold it stationary on the shaft? leaving the lower pulley (on the clutch) to only turn when the electrical on/off position is satisfied?

Never seen any broken that way.

Yes you will just matching up diameters, lengths, and rotation directions since this is a retro fit.

That just about it.
Here is the specs on the current double pulley you have.
Pulleys are 3-25/64 & 6" O.D.
1" I.D  5-7/8" Height
1/4" Key Way

so basically to a stack to matches the stack but a separate drive pulley, spacers as needed and a PTO clutch with an anti-rotation arm. The 3-25/64 drive pulley is critical as must fit within the frame belt retainer and not bind the drive belt.  You may need to off the pulley use it as part of the retro fit.

Here is the general idea how electric PTO setup go together.

If you're referring the spacer with the double flats it don't turn as it is keyed to the crankshaft. The PTO should just slide off; unless, it is stuck on the crankshaft because someone didn't use anti-seize on it. If stuck on it can be a challenge to get it off.

My father had the lt1000, in 4 years broke 3 engagement cables and deck rusted thru. The second worst mower he has ever owned.
