Flooding? Predator 13hp won’t start

Bought new Predator 420cc 13hp engine and ran fine for a couple tries but now, trying to run it for break in period. The other day it cranked with choke, then I put it to “run” and it ran maybe 5 minutes and quit. Now won’t start. Afraid it may be flooding but unsure what to do now. Thinking carburetor air/fuel mixture may be off but unsure how to adjust and how much to monkey with it. I’m no mechanic but need some help! Thanks in advance.

These generally don't have carb kits and most are Honda knockoffs as far as parts go.

You replace the whole carb and most don't have any adjustments (all engines are this way for residential small engines) I haven't seen adjustments on a carb since techumseh was bought out.

Silly question but did you put oil in it? They don't get shipped with oil in them.

If you can find some model numbers I can try to help.

Not a silly question at all. I brought SP Murray mower last year that this was the very reason it threw a rod. I got to part out since the parts were new.

I put oil in and followed all instructions.
Motor has carb.
It is the Predator 420cc 13hp horizontal single cylinder 4 stroke OHV EPA phase III compliant

Is the gas older than 30 days? Did you get 89 octane?

Gas is getting crappier by the year and won't hurt fuel injected cars as much as carbs which just have a bowl of fuel waiting for air to hit it.

You should have two screws on the bowl of the carb, the one in the center and one off center. The off center one will drain the gas. I'd drain it all out through there as a flush. Then add new fuel 89 octane or higher and add stabilizer or Mechanic in a bottle.

The center will remove the bowl leave it alone or the gasket could/will warp on removal. 90% of the mowers I see need carb work even some that are new depending on age an quality of gas.

Never use speedway, marathon or Swifty gas stations. I go for bp or she'll if possible , car dealers of lists of where to get gas too if you ask around.

I'm going to look up some predator info to be sure I point you to the right carb if you want to go that route.

eBay has the carb but you can find them cheaper, I've seen Amazon and eBay work well for people. But they won't take stuff back if it touches fuel so make sure everything looks similar to yours.

I guess some have a fuel solinoid (electrical wires on the carb bowl will show you do) all I've seen do not

You can see if carb cleaner will let the engine start if it does start but dies then you have a carb issue. If it keeps running maybe a choke issue(still in the carb lol)
