Troy Bilt trimmer issue

I have a Troy Bilt TB685 EC trimmer. Today while I was trimming it started to like loose power and eventually die even with the trigger fully pulled. It felt a little strange when I tried to restart and I noticed something was rattling around in the housing. I attached a picture of what came out and wanted to know if anyone knows what this piece is part of. Thank you.

Try attaching the image again didn't make it.

But My opinion of these 4 cycle trimmer is pretty low when it comes to repair-ability especially when it comes to the engine (powerhead) itself. They tend to self destruct around here. They don't anything other than level operation due the oiling system. 9 out 10 usually losses the piston and cylinder and by the you by a short block and add labor it is more reasonable to just to replace them.

I was able to upload the image to my original post. I have figured out that most gas engines on these tools are not very good anymore. Especially here in California because of all the alcohol in our fuel it seems to ruin them quite fast. But I am not sure that this trimmer is done for, just not sure what that little piece is, or if there is more to it that may have fallen out.

I'll see if I can tell what it is once Admin approves the post.

Meanwhile most low end 2 cycles and 4 cycles are not even worth fixing but I do repair quite a few of the more pricey ones. If you're looking a good 4 cycle handheld I recommend going with either the Stihl 4 mix or the Shindaiwa 4 cycles. These are hybrid 4 cycles meaning they are true 4 cycles but run on 2 cycle mix as this how the engines are oiled since they have no separate oil tank. A lot my customers don't even know they got a 4 cycle until I need to adjust the valves.

Yes they are expensive but are well the extra expense.

That is a rewind starter pawl, the engine has to come out of the unit to access the assembly. With that flying around the flywheel and ignition module are likely destroyed.

Thank you. At least I know where to look. It didn’t sound like it got slung around really, no knocking or bad noises. Just lost power and eventually died. Seems like it wants to start back up, but I didn’t try to hard in fear of making things worse.
