Honda HP400 product Carrier

There wasn't a category for this oddbal piece of equipment,so I thought I'd start here.I picked this Honda HP400 product carrier which while it has many uses,it's designed for masonry work.It is fully tracked, has a dumping container & fits thru a 32" doorway. My problem is with the drive clutches. It has one lever on each handlebar & drives like a bulldozer. It has a 3-speed transmission ,but the clutch is internal to the engine crankcase.Actuating the levers to disengage the clutches does steer it but won't disengage the power to the tranny.I found the owners manual online & the lever/cable adjustments are correct. The end of the cables go to a lever on the crankcase [ like a motorcycle ] & the lever has full movement. None of the local dealers have ever seen or worked on one. It is operable, but putting it in either the 2 fwd. or 1 Rev. gears obviously grinds when you shift it & makes using it a bit precarious.I'd appreciate any idea's on what might be wrong or where I can find info on it.The internet hasn't turned up anything but an operating manual which has basic adjustment & troubleshooting.Just not my problem. Thank You , Sgt.Rudz .

I would love to play with that machine, sounds interesting. Have never seen one so only help I can offer is this link to a Shop Manual for it might be well worth the $45.00 if you plan on keeping this machine and using it.

Hey kshansen, any chance you live in Mass. USA ? I could use Your enthusiasm.Unfortunately, the manual link wouldn't download.I'll have to track it down,as I am stumped right now.Because this unit sat unused for at least a decade,I was thinking of putting Rislone [ or some other engine cleaner ] into the crankcase & running it til it's hot them doing an oil change.I'm hoping something is gummed/varnished up in the clutch pack or release mechanism. It's an inexpensive try. I'm trying to avoid pulling the engine so I can access removal of the clutch cover. This thing is pretty cool as your video shows. It has immense torque & load ability. If I find the culprit,I'll post it.My big fear is that parts might no longer be available, should something need replacement. If I can't repair it,I'll sell it.Probably for less than it's worth. Thanks again, Sgt. Rudz .

Not Mass. over in the center of New York.

I found that video on YouTube and it does look neat, kind of a cross between a wheelbarrow and a bulldozer with a little bit of a dump truck thrown in.

Wish I could be of more help. Hate to see a piece of machinery junked if all it might need is something simple to fix it.

Don't see where the Rislone would make things worse than it is right now. I know many years ago, about 45 to be close, I had an old Ford 1962 I believe that developed a bad lifter noise. Just for the heck of it I got some of one of those Miracle Cures in a can and dumped it in and let engine sit there running for about an hour. To my surprise when I came back outside it was idling nice and quiet!

I had a similar experience ( also many, many years ago ), & as you said, I don't think it'll hurt.Because of how long it set unused I think it's a logical idea. I'm not one that let's a machine beat me.I'm gonna keep at it because it's so unique. With its power & traction, I'm thinking of mounting a plow on it for the winter ! Thanks for your support kshansen
