Briggs 10.5hp recoil assembly

I have a 1999 Briggs 28B702 10.5hp engine on an Exmark 32" mower. I've repaired the recoil mechanism many times and would like to switch to a newer recoil with retracting pawls for hopefully better reliability. According to Jack's parts list for this engine, it should accept the 591606 () recoil assembly, which I ordered, but it is significantly too big in diameter. Maybe I should get 693900 () instead?

Need the type number and datecode to verify PNs but you appear to have one before 99102500. According to IPL there are several parts including a new shroud, new fan, and debris screen as were changed on 10/25/1999 . Also you need to remove the stud from the crankshaft to accept the new starter cup and recoil.

The upgrade recoil would be PN 695129.

Thanks, the type number is 1041-E1, date code is 990908Z0. So it would appear to be before 99102500.
