zero turn transmission with bad input shaft

zero turn transmission with bad input shaft, any chance I can replace the shaft without removing the side plate.  It looks like it drops in and if everything is aligned it should pull out and drop in without much trouble.  It can't be that easy can it?

What is the make and model of the transmision?

ZC-ACBB-3D5A-1FPX  It is a ZTS.

It is on a Hustler sport, model 929596

The transaxle is a HydroGear ZT-2200 (EZT). You should only need to remove the snap ring.

So just lock down the forward reverse lever and remove the snap ring then slide the old out and the new in.
No worries about the spring and washer on the bottom?
Any suggestion on how to remove the pulley?  The splines are shot and the pulley spins on the shaft when I try to take off the nut.  I am hoping that I can get at the snap ring under the pulley.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't get them out alignment but here is a link to the service manual for the Hydro Gear ZT-2200

Instructions on PDF page 27 (manual page 25). The are if you are fully disassembling the whole unit so some steps are a little confusing unless you know you just wanting to remove the input shaft only. As for the nut removal since the shaft splines are most like stripped too. It which way needed up to cutting it off. I don't know if a nut splitter will able to fit in there or not.  There also might enough room to get a pair right angle tips of a snap pliers to remove the ring without removing the pulley.

The repair went very well, thanks for the help.
This was so easy that I would change the shaft with every pulley now.
Took 20 minutes!
