LawnBoy No Spark

Good morning,
 
I have a lawnboy model # 10550, serial # 210000842 and that just quit while mowing the lawn and would not restart.  I checked the for spark and found none so I just replaced the coil with an OEM one from Jacks and still have no spark.  I have disconnected the ground to no avail.  The ohms reading on my multimeter from lead to ground is 1.15 K ohms.  Is this within range?  I am stumped as to next possible steps.

Have you tried replacing the spark plug with a known good plug?

Since this engine appear that it has a electronically triggered coil (otherwords not points and condenser use externally) and if the flywheel magnets are strong then the coil is bad. It not unheard of for new coils to be bad.

I got a mower from a relative for free
he had put a new armature(coil pack) on the mower and still no fire 
i thought that it might be the gap but tried everything and could not get fire.
Bought another coil pack and it started right up.
I use a business card to set the gap, seemed to work ok.

The 10550 is a great machine. Just chiming in to say how much I miss the 2-cycle LBs. I loved the 10550 but did not love the Easy-Stride system (Personal Pace). I still have LBs but 4-cycles; a 2004 10684 Insight (Tecumseh) and a 2007 22271 Commercial (Honda 190 GSV), both with Variable Speed - very similar to PP but with bail control and no problems pulling back. 
Since your 10550 obviously will have some years on it and considering that it just cut off while running, I wonder if the plug wire has worn where it comes out of the air shroud and is shorted. Or, if the safety switch or cable has a problem?
