TORO single stage lower belt cover metal wearing away

As per pictures, anyone have suggestions to fix this?
I'm guessing the scraper was allowed to wear down too much thusly removing the metal, but only on the belt side.  The other side is just fine.  
Thinking about a thin piece of flat or rounded bar-but then I'm concerned it could raise the chassis/scraper higher than the paddles will reach?
 
any thoughts??
