Removing Carburetor on Tecumseh OH318SA

I am in the process of removing the carburetor on my Ariens Snow King, engine model OH318SA. Having a problem because the 2 bolts holding it on are behind parts of the carb itself. The big problem is on the right side (see attached pic) where the gas inlet structure is preventing a straight in shot of inserting my torx and the space between the "bolt head" and the gas inlet is about 1" making it quite difficult. Any thoughts on this.
Thanks
Dann

This is a design problem of Tecumseh. There is only a couple ways of removing the screw and it depends on how tight it is. One is to use a ball Allen wrench and the other is a pair of vise grips that us have handy. You can also use a non tapered T15 wrench that has a round shank vs the 1/4 hex shape.

One other option if you are just cleaning the carburetor is to remove the intake pipe from the head and clean the carburetor and intake as an assembly.

Have to love people who design things like that huh?

Not that unusual even the old H70 flat head Tecumsehs had phillips screws that were a pain to remove and install!

Here is a source of a ball end T15 driver, just sucks to have to buy a special tool for one time use on one screw!

Hmmm, the first time I have seen a ball end Trox. At least it is not an expensive tool. I wondering when someone was start making them. Tnx for the link.

I just did a drive clutch on a Polaris where the tools for torquing it is over $150 for the aftermarket ones but got to have them to get it torqued to 200 ft-lbs. No telling when I get to use them again. Of course I don't dissemble these very often. Most times it just the pulling of the whole assembly for belt replacement but this it needed bushings.
