Its broke

Kawasaki FC420v-fs00 no spark

When I got this engine there was no spark so I replaced the coil I got spark for a second and then I lost it. I moved the igniter to a new spot on the ground, I got spark again and then I lost spark. I cannot get spark again I've cleaned the ground, cleaned the magnets on the flywheel, cleaned connectors but no luck. Just wondering if anyone can help me out before I just start buying parts.

Did you try it with the primary lead to the coil disconnected?

If disconnecting at the coil this just disables the ignition system completely. You must the magneto kill wire and disconnect it leaving the ignitor connected to the coil.

Igniters do fail sometimes strangely causing no fire and miss fires. I had one JD that nearly sat my pants leg on fire due random miss fires.

Here ohm out test sheet from the service manual. Basically if the coil passes the tests you have either a failing [failed] ignitor; unless, there is a problem grounding out the kill terminal which from a bare wire touching ground to an safety switch failure. This depends on the wiring of the equipment.

The following shows the igniter/coil setup. L1/L2 is the coil, CU is the igniter, and SW is the ignition switch and safety switches. Of course SP is the spark plug.
