Vintage snapper destroys new drive disc

Replaced drive disc, used mower for about an hour and now about 2 inches of rubber collectively have been torn away. Did I get a cheap disc or is something mechanically wrong?

Check for slop / wear on the horizontal disc it rides on.

Also, with the main spring (between the two) off, check for slop in bearings.

As I've owned both drive styles (and currently own the latest-no separate tensioner) machine.
I've had to replace the horizontal disc as the bearing went bad as a result of water intrusion(washing the deck)..

Some wear on the horizontal disc however seems seized to the shaft. Gonna use gear puller to remove. It’s steel I have another off a newer model that’s aluminum but seems to be same dimensions. No abnormal slop though it appears
