B & G Tiller Carb question

B & G Tiller Carb question

I am replacing the carb on an old tiller. It is a long carb that sits under the air filter. The old carb has a "pull tab" that I assume is the choke. However, the new carb does not have that pull tab. Does anyone have any insight? I am attaching pictures. If you look at the new carb image, part number 127 is where the pull tab used to be. It is now replaced with a "welch plug"

    On your original carb, you are correct, that is the choke-Pull out to choke it. 
     
    Looks like your new carb may have a butterfly choke. Kinda hard to see in the second picture..
     
    The original carb isn't hard to rebuild, just a diaphram and  spring as I re-call..

    Can I still choke the carb if I put the new one on? Here are couple of pics before I order it

    Can you post a link to the carb itself?
     
    It must have a choke of some sort, and a throttle as well but as to 
    if it's the same configuration, dunno, doesn't look like it.
     
    Can you find a carb with the pull out choke and same linkages you have?
     
    Post an engine model # if you would...

    Looking at the parts # on your pic, this is the replacement ORIGINAL Briggs carb replacement:

    The diaphram kit for your original carb is very in-expensive and easy to install.
    You may want to look into that as you know everything will still fit.  I'd rather have the 
    original carb on it.  
     
    BTW, I grew up on mini-bikes with that carb, mostly 5 HP models..
    And they were very, very dependable.
    The bikes were quick for what they were, very torquey....

    Got another question for you. I am a new DIY’er and I have replaced a few carbs. I want to check compression on some small engines, snowblowers, lawn mowers etc. Is there a certain level of compression I should expect to see or is each type of small engine different? I see online that 50 psi is good, then someone else say 120 psi…..would you know?

    100 PSI is the general rule of thumb for the minimum needed..
