Echo ES-250 Flywheel Inspection

I have an Shred 'N' Vac blower that I believe needs a new flywheel. Guessing the flywheel key has been sheared off.  Anyway, I'm having an issue getting to it to inspect. Apparently, the shredder blade needs to be removed first but I can't seem to get it off. Any suggestions on how to remove it?

I gather your referring to the bolt securing the "blower blade" on?

It may be a reverse thread bolt.  Gently try turning the bolt the clockwise..

Below is a link to the parts diagram that should be helpful in the dis-assembly and assembly process:

Thank you for the reply.  I was able to get the fan blade off with the cutter blade attached.  When I pulled the flywheel out it appears that the integrated key is wearing down.  Still good enough it catch but will definitely need to be replaced soon.

That diagram/link I posted shows a separate key.

If you do in-deed have a flywheel with a "cast in" key I have been able to repair them

You'd need some keyway stock (square or rectangular rod).  I take different small files,
some triangular, some flat, etc.
I then file and cut a notch into the distressed flywheel.
It takes some time and patience but it does work and you have a STEEL KEY, not an aluminum
cast key... Saves the cost and time of a new flywheel...

@SRTsFZ6, I have a slight older model of the Echo ES-250.  This is the part diagram for mine.  I guess they got smart and changed the flywheel on later models.

Thank you for the suggestion on repairing it if it gets worse.  Hoping that I get some more life out if it for now.

All the best!
