Kohler sv530 17hp governor

I have me this " hand me down " lawn tractor that the tractor is not running right.  The governor arm has been moved & I want to get it to factory setting but i do not know how.  Any insight on how i can get this done ?
I went as far as pulling the upper pan off so that i could install a new governor gear but now i must have screwed up how the 2 - cam gears line up to the crankshaft.
