Great dane scamper

Keep breaking transmission belts on my walk behind. Wondering about bolt coming out back of frame. Is this right? Feel like it may have been altered. Bought it used. Tension spring seems to want to touch pulley. Seeing diagram with clip spring retainer. But where does it go? Thank you. Michelle.

I have the scamper 17 hsp kaw engine hydro. It's the clip spring retainer. I think. My spring is hooked to eye bolt coming out the back of mower. Trying to send a picture.

Can you look at this site and try to find your machine:

    https://www.partstree.com/search/?type=model&term=+great+dane+scamper+17hp+kawasaki

I don't see any 17HP Kawi's.  It may be under the serial #...

ALSO, quote: "Seeing diagram with clip spring retainer".
Please post a link to help figure out what your looking at

The model number is tchr17wo10104. I think it is around 2002 or 2003 year. Pull start. I've looked at other ones and none have tension screw coming out of the back. Thanks. I see the diagrams on manuelslib but can't figure it out. Thanks.

Still trying to figure out if the spring should hook to a eye bolt that goes out the back of frame. Just seen one for sale and theirs is showing a bolt but further away from right corner then mine. Thanks

    Your last post doesn't show...

That model # isn't coming up anywhere..

In any event, nothing should be touching belts or pulleys.
As for the tension spring, it's likely very heavy duty (correct me if I'm wrong).
With that said, you'll only be able to stretch it maybe an inch (roughly).
So with the spring attached to the "moving mechanism/arm", put it in the area
of where it would be pulling (and not striking anything).  There has to be
a hole, hook, etc for it to attach to...

The hole it's currently thru, does the hole
appear to be factory drilled or evidence of someone making a random hole?

Ok. Yes. Heavy spring. Can't tell about factory drill or not. Thanks.

Some of them I'm seeing for sale have no bolt out the back. Some do. Makes no since.

They may have different set ups.

In any event look for where the spring may go. It'll be in that general area.

Is the way it's set up now rubbing on anything?

As for belts constantly breaking, loosen the tension on the belt(s).
Check all idlers, spindles, etc for any roughness, tightness, bent, etc.
Something is not correct causing the breaking of belts.

Yes. Must be different set ups. Pulleys and spindles and all new. Spring was resting on belt pulley. Getting another spring and will try and get right tension on it. Thank you for your help.
