control cable

Hey, first post. I have a 2yr old Cub Cadet Zero turn with a Kohler 7000 24HP. I had an issue getting going from the winter. I ran through the winter gas with no problem, refilled with fresh and all it would do is fall on it's face when I engage the blades, black smoke , black plugs. I took things apart to clean and check things out. Put it back together and have it close to right but I can't seem to hit the control cable position right. It's loading up when I hit a spot of thick grass like it has gone to choke. I'm not really sure it's the control cable but it's the only thing that gives me any results from adjusting.

I'd check to make sure the choke butterfly isn't partially on when it shouldn't be..
